A School of Hope

“For it matters not how small the beginning may seem to be...”

– Henry David Thoreau

Imagine walking into a classroom where each student is fully present in their own essence and at task with what they hold valuable. The buzz in the air reflects a deep satisfaction with an exchange of open minds. The physical environment is creative, caring and loving. Emotions are no longer suppressed but integrated. The educational process has arrived at addressing the whole human being, overcoming fragmentation. The children no longer survive - they thrive!

Welcome to TEMBA!

“At a time when large educational institutions are putting test scores and business models ahead of human needs, TEMBA is leading the way forward by showing us what can happen when the needs of students and teachers are at the center. These kids really can imagine a world that works for everyone, a world where love and creativity blossom. It really feeds my hope for that world, a world that I want also."

– Sura Hart, co-author of Respectful Parents, Respectful Kids, The Compassionate Classroom, and The No-Fault Classroom

"I've always said that you have to establish trust. I don't want to be in conflict with my students. I want to be able to understand where they're coming from. Sometimes when we're in the walls of our classrooms, we think we're the only ones doing it. Here, Catherine is doing it and she has created a whole school about this. It has me in awe that this is actually being done."

– Stephen Hardaway, principal, Euclid High School, Cleveland, Ohio

We're currently "under construction". By Spring 2010, this website will have more information about the history of TEMBA and the TEMBA film project.
